Many in our community have asked for recommendations of Enneagram books (or podcasts) to help continue their learning. There are so many incredible resources out there. This list offers a place to start. In no particular order, here they are:
- Personality Types or Discovering Your Personality Type by Don Richard Riso, Russ Hudson
Why we like it: Don Riso and Russ Hudson are authors of some of the most foundational texts of the Enneagram. “Personality Types” is an excellent deep-dive into the complexities of each personality type. This book offers a helpful (and thorough) guide through the layers of health in each number. Understanding how dynamic our personality truly is and the influences that shape our behaviors, attitudes, and motivations, opens the door to deeper understanding of who (and how) we are.
2. The Road Back to You, Suzanne Stabile and Ian Cron
3. The Path Between Us, Suzanne Stabile
Why we like it: Both of these books are fantastic reads to have on hand. Where many Enneagram books out there are more complex and lengthy reads, these are accessible without sacrificing the depth and meaning that the Enneagram offers. Many friends and family have purchased these books and found great insight (even when just skimming and opening the book to a random page).
4. Essential Enneagram, David Daniels
Why we like it: This book is on the shorter side, and serves as a great introduction to the Enneagram and a helpful resource to “keep in your pocket” to quickly reference in conversation.
5. The Sacred Enneagram, Christopher L. Heuertz, Richard Rohr (Foreword)
Why we like it: Beautifully written. If you are looking to grow yourself spiritually using the Enneagram, this is the book. Expect thoughtful contemplation and some practical wisdom.
6. The Complete Enneagram: 27 Paths to Greater Self-Knowledge, Beatrice Chestnut
Why we like it: This is a great read for any interested in exploring each of the nine types of the Enneagram, and digging deeper into the three different subtype forms each type can take, and the path each of us can take toward growth.
Podcast: The Art of Growth
Why we like it: The Art of Growth focuses on helping people end patterns of self sabotage and fulfill their potential. Podcast episodes range from number panels, deep dives into specific topics, and more. It’s a great way to listening to healthy and productive conversation from people who have a good grasp of their number (personality).
Podcast: Sleeping at Last
Why we like it: One of my favorite podcast listens of all time. Check out Sleeping at Last’s Enneagram Series where Ryan O’Neal talks through his unique musical compositions for each number on the Enneagram. Listen to your own core number, or listen to how he (and his co-collaborator Chris Heuertz) talk about all nine numbers to deepen your understanding in your relationship with others.
